A brief history .. .

 

The Astronomy library founded in 1881 by Raphaël Bischoffsheim at Nice

A nineteenth-century collection of books and journals in several languages

covering a great variety of subjects : particularly in astronomy but also in  mathematics, physics, optics, cartography, geodesy, photography...

 

A library in constant evolution ....

With new geographical sites and new collections in the field of Earth sciences and Astrophysics :



The Grasse-Calern library (1988-2012 - geographical location : Grasse)

 

The 2 libraries of Geoazur laboratory (2008-2012 - geographical locations : Villefranche-sur-Mer and Sophia-Antipolis, Valbonne)

The library of Lagrange laboratory (ancient name : Fizeau Laboratory) (since 2008 - geographical location : Nice Valrose)

The new library of Geoazur laboratory (since october 2012 - geographical location : Sophia-Antipolis, Valbonne -

(a merger of the 3 ancient libraries of Grasse, Villefranche-sur-Mer and Sophia-Antipolis)

 

Missions /

 

 

The three OCA libraries support the research and teaching activities of the Observatory. They acquire, organize, preserve, and make available collections of materials.

The Libraries fulfill their  mission by providing : intellectual access to materials and information ; assistance in the location  and use of the materials ; facilities and services for research and study.
